Master Specialist
Hands On Technician Certification

The highest credential conferred upon a field technician

Why Hands-On?

A written exam indicates whether a technician has retained the knowledge to be competent, but not whether they are competent. Just as new drivers take a written exam and a road test to demonstrate their knowledge and skill, Master Specialists are required to go beyond a written test and demonstrate their skill and workmanship. The analogy would be knowing which solder to use and then demonstrating that you can solder tubing that is structurally sound and leak free. The Master Specialist program requires a technician to demonstrate retained knowledge and prove that they can apply that knowledge through skill verification.

Experience and knowledge, coupled with performance verification, is the only way to prove mastery.

Benefits of Hands-On Certification:

Master Specialist certification identifies technicians that possess the highest levels of competency, and challenges others to improve. The program assists: employers in hiring competent technicians; manufacturers in warranty cost reductions; and consumers with confidence in a technician's competency. In addition, it allows HVAC Excellence to analyze current deficiencies in the technical workforce, on a regional basis, and use that information to provide educational programs with the data necessary to develop ongoing training for field technicians.

A technician may test in any or all of these areas in which they wish to earn their Master Specialist certification.

Technicians who successfully attains a Master Specialist Certification will receive a mounted wall certificate and patch.
