Employment Ready Certifications
Certification is an aid in identifying the scope and level of a technician's competency. HVAC Excellence offers progressive levels of certification that identify knowledge
and skill levels of individual’s through each phase of their career.
Employment Ready Certifications are utilized by post secondary schools, JATC programs, wholesalers, utilities and other groups to identify individuals who have successfully
attained the knowledge necessary to enter the HVACR workforce.
Persons who successfully pass their exams are awarded an HVAC Excellence patch, a chevron for the area specific certification they pass and a wall certificate.
Passing these exams can lead to advanced placement with the United Association, fast tracking a technician’s career.
Comparative Analysis Reports
Instructors / Proctors can access an online comparative analysis, which allows them to evaluate the effectiveness of their program and aids in fulfilling the performance
indicators for "No Child Left Behind" & "Carl D Perkins Act" Federal legislation.

Electrical
The electrical exam is recommended as a prerequisite for all other certifications in the HVAC Excellence program as a strong understanding of electrical fundamentals is
crucial for a successful technician. This examination challenges students in the following areas of electrical knowledge: theory, safety, troubleshooting, motors, using
meters and interpreting pictorial and schematic wiring diagrams.
Light Commercial Air Conditioning
Commercial buildings may experience high occupancy leading to indoor air quality (IAQ) concerns, and contain a variety of equipment and controls unique to commercial applications.
This certification addresses the unique issues involved in the service and maintenance of light commercial air conditioning systems up to 25 tons.
Air Conditioning
Air conditioning certification establishes a basis for all other residential certifications involving the vapor compression refrigeration system. A properly maintained system by a qualified
technician should deliver years of trouble free operation.
Basic Refrigeration and Charging Procedures
This fifty-question examination addresses the fundamentals of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, the refrigeration cycle, system charging and evacuation as well as troubleshooting.
Electric Heat
Electric Heat Certification includes the servicing and troubleshooting of electric heat systems. Electric heat is commonly used as a supplemental heat supply for heat pump systems.
Gas Heat
Gas heat systems have changed dramatically in the past few years. Many new high efficiency gas heating units employ electronic ignitions systems, variable speed motors, and a
myriad of electrical controls. In addition to a solid foundation in the theory and operation of older existing systems, today's technician must possess the skills to service newer
systems to ensure safe, trouble free and efficient operation.
Oil Heat
Oil heat requires more consistent service than any other heating system. Preventative maintenance procedures, from the oil tank to the flue must be preformed. Technicians servicing
and troubleshooting oil heating systems require extensive knowledge to properly install, service and safely maintain these systems.
Residential and Light Commercial Hydronic Heat
Hydronic heating systems use hot water to carry heat to occupied spaces. Today's systems employ various piping arrangements to allow for zoned heat control. Many of these zoned
systems use microprocessor controls to allow different heat levels to areas heated. The heat exchange units vary from stand up radiators, to baseboard units, to in-floor radiant heat
systems. These complex systems require highly competent technicians.
Heat Pump
Covers areas of service and troubleshooting of air- to-air heat pump systems.
Carbon Monoxide
To ensure public health and safety the following occupations need to be aware of Carbon Monoxide dangers and remediation procedures: This is a fifty-question exam.
System Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Procedures

A specialty exam focusing on fuel properties, combustion analysis and efficiency testing of fuel oil.
Natural Gas Combustion Analysis
A specialty exam focusing on fuel properties, combustion analysis and efficiency testing of gaseous fuels.
Carbon Monoxide and Combustion Analysis
This exam focuses on introductory information pertaining to carbon monoxide safety, basics of combustion and building pressures. A great introduction for new students.
Light Commercial Refrigeration
The commercial refrigeration technician must act quickly and accurately in troubleshooting and service situations. Competency is essential when perishables are at risk.
