Green Tech

Certification is an aid in identifying the scope and level of a technician’s competency. A single certification can not meet the needs of everyone in the industry. Students, experienced technicians and educators need separate programs to identify their skill levels at every stage of their career.

HVAC Excellence offers progressive levels of certification that identify knowledge and skill levels of individual’s through each phase of their career. We offer three student outcome assessment programs, two for secondary programs and one for post secondary.

There are over 900 schools in the United States that have chosen to proctor the HVAC Excellence student outcome assessment programs.

Secondary (High School) Assessments

Heating, Electrical, Air Conditioning Technology (H.E.A.T.)

Secondary students taking the H.E.A.T. exam who successfully pass the 100 question tested are awarded a certificate of achievement. In order to accommodate geographic differences two versions are available. Both versions cover basic electricity, the vapor compression cycle and either gas heat or oil heat.

Heating, Electrical, Air Conditioning Technology (H.E.A.T) Plus

A comprehensive end of program assessment containing the H.E.A.T. competencies plus computer literacy, safety, related math, employability skills, work ethics and an performance component (hands-on).

Post Secondary Assessments

Employment Ready Certifications

These certifications provide post secondary students and new technicians with tangible evidence of accomplishment and instructors with tools to improve learning. Instructors can access an online comparative analysis, which allows them to evaluate the effectiveness of their program. This certification helps identify individuals who have successfully attained the knowledge necessary to enter the HVACR workforce.

Students may take any of several 100 question exams in the various disciplines taught within a states mandated curriculum:

  • Electrical
  • Light Commercial Air Conditioning
  • Air Conditioning
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration
  • Heat Pump
  • Carbon Monoxide & Combustion Analysis
  • Gas Heat
  • Oil Heat
  • Electric Heat
  • Residential Low Pressure Hydronic Heat

Students are also eligible to take the following professional level certifications:

  • Universal R-410A
  • Green Awareness

Graduates from HVAC Excellence Accredited programs, and have passed our Employment Ready Certifications, can be fast tracked to higher entry levels with over 1,200 contractors, download the articulation agreement.

HVACX Green

Statistical Reports

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) requires Documentation of Competency (Student attainment of an industry-recognized credential). The comparative analysis reports, aids in fulfilling the performance indicators for "No Child Left Behind" & “Carl D Perkins Act” Federal legislation.

Test administrators (proctors) have access to on-line reports. These reports identify the specific areas in which students are succeeding and struggling, to measure the effectiveness of their training.
